The all-wheel-drive Passport comes in three trims: the EX-L, the off-road-oriented TrailSport, and the top-of-the-line Elite. Their 3.5-liter V-6 engine (280 horsepower and 262 lb.-ft. of torque) pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission to form the powertrain. When it’s properly equipped, the 2023 Passport has a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds. The EPA has estimated the fuel economy for all trim levels to be 19 mpg around town and 24 mpg on the open road.
It’s technically correct to call the EX-L as the base Passport trim, but its broad range of included equipment elevates it above that term. Those standard features include leather-trimmed seats (heated in the front row), a power moonroof, tri-zone automatic climate control, a power liftgate, proximity keyless entry, push-button start, remote start, a ten-way power driver’s seat, a four-way power front passenger seat, and a driver’s position memory system. The least-expensive Passport also gets LED headlights, a sound-reducing windshield, rear privacy glass, heated side mirrors, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 20-inch alloy wheels. All Passports also have the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety technology, which is detailed below.
The TrailSport takes on a more rugged appearance with its unique grille, trail-ready tires on 18-inch alloy wheels, LED fog lights, and roof rails. It also has trim-specific leather upholstery, heated power-folding side mirrors, a heated windshield-wiper rest zone (to help during icing conditions), rear side-window sunshades, and ambient LED interior lighting. The Elite stands at the top of the Passport range with the equipment of the TrailSport (minus the rugged exterior treatments) along with heated and ventilated front seats, perforated leather-trimmed seating, heated rear outboard seats, second-row climate controls, a hands-free liftgate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, sound-reducing glass for all windows, and 20-inch alloy wheels.
As we mentioned, every 2023 Passport is equipped with Honda Sensing. This technology suite contains forward collision warning, collision mitigation, road-departure mitigation, lane departure warning, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, automatic high beams, and front and rear parking sensors. Among the other safety equipment are anti-lock brakes, a rear-seat reminder, a multi-angle rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, traction control, stability control, and a full array of airbags.
An 8-inch touchscreen is the central component of the Passport’s base infotainment system. It’s accompanied by a seven-speaker sound system (215 watts), Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, SMS text messaging, and access to the HondaLink smartphone app. Wireless device charging, multiple USB ports, and multiple 12-volt outlets are also standard. The TrailSport and Elite add navigation and a 115-volt household power outlet. The Elite is upgraded with a ten-speaker audio system (540 watts), a Wi-Fi hotspot, and HondaLink subscription services.
