There’s no “Which trim should I get?” decision to be made with the 2024 Honda Civic Type R: it comes as a singular well-equipped trim package. The four-door hatch packs a punch with 315 horsepower and 310 lb.-ft. of torque, supplied by its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Power is sent to the front wheels via a rev-matching, six-speed manual transmission. Nobody seems to mind that Honda doesn’t offer an automatic gearbox available with the Type R: after all, this model is meant for serious drivers who enjoy managing the gears themselves.
Honda has packed this four-seat performance-oriented Civic with specialized features, including exclusive sports seats (upholstered in red/black suede-effect fabric and double red stitching), a Honda LogR datalogger, an aluminum hood, a gloss-black rear wing, a triple outlet exhaust with an active exhaust valve (to control the volume of the exhaust), Type R-themed exterior treatments, sport pedals, and an aluminum shift knob. Every unit has its own serial number plate, plus red ambient LED cabin lighting, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and 19-inch matte-black wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
The behind-the-wheel experience is enhanced with a four-mode drive system (Comfort/Sport/Individual/+R), Brembo four-piston aluminum front brake calipers, and an adaptive damper system. The car’s comfort and convenience equipment includes proximity keyless entry, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, cruise control, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, a tilt-and-telescopic steering column, power side-view mirrors with integrated LED turn indicators, wireless device charging, a pair of USB ports, and variable intermittent windshield wipers.
The Honda Sensing suite of driver-assist features comes standard with the Civic Type R. The included safety technologies are forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, a road departure mitigation system, adaptive cruise control, a driver attention monitor, traffic sign recognition, and automatic high beams. The Type R is also set up with a full array of airbags, anti-lock brakes, stability control, traction control, hill start assist, and an advanced rearview monitor with dynamic guidelines.
You’ll use a 9-inch color touchscreen to manage the Civic Type R’s infotainment system. Its components are navigation, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, SiriusXM satellite radio, and a Bose sound system with a dozen speakers. Also standard are a text messaging assistant, access to HondaLink, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
