Overview

There’ll be no sophomore jinx for the CR-V Hybrid, which debuted for the 2020 model year and is back for 2021 with the same appealing traits. For one, all-wheel drive comes standard, and fuel economy is stellar. It has the same upscale cabin and varied features as the conventional gasoline-only CR-V, but eco-conscious drivers love the additional facet of its “green” profile. Those who really get into seeing how much fossil fuel they’re saving will enjoy the Hybrid Driver Information Interface, which shows real-time power and recharging information during vehicle operation. And, like every Honda, the 2021 CR-V Hybrid gets a solid reputation for build quality and longevity, so you can be sure you’ll be driving it for many years – and perhaps you’ll have a future driver you’ll be happy to pass it down to.

Trims and Powertrain

The 2021 Honda CR-V Hybrid is an all-wheel drive compact crossover that comes in three trim levels, the EX, EX-L, and Touring. It has a 212 horsepower hybrid powertrain made up of a 2.0-liter gasoline-burning four-cylinder engine and an electric motor with an eCVT (electronic continuously variable transmission). The United States EPA has estimated the CR-V Hybrid’s fuel economy to be 40 miles per gallon around town and 35 mpg on the highway. Regenerative braking helps to extend overall range by harvesting energy produced by the stopping process (which would otherwise be wasted) and storing it in the battery.

Amenities by Trim Level

The base EX gets single-zone automatic climate control, automatic LED headlights, LED fog lights, keyless entry, walk-away auto-lock, a power moonroof, heated exterior mirrors with integrated turn signals, heated front cloth seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat with position memory for multiple drivers. The EX-L adds leather seats, a heated steering wheel wrapped in leather, a power tailgate, ambient interior lighting, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, HomeLink technology, and a power-adjustable front passenger seat. The Touring gets loaded up with all of the amenities, from a hands-free liftgate and rain-sensing windshield wipers to 19-inch wheels and roof rails. All CR-V Hybrid trims have ample interior space with cleverly designed storage areas.

Safety and Technology

The Honda Sensing active safety package is standard fare on every 2021 CR-V Hybrid. It contains automatic high beams, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, lane keep assist, lane departure warning. The EX-L and Touring also get a blind spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, and the Touring is equipped with front and rear parking sensors.

For staying connected and informed, the base infotainment system has a 7-inch LCD screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD radio, SMS hands-free text messaging, Bluetooth (for hands-free phone and audio streaming), a USB audio port, and a 12-volt power outlet. Sound is supplied by a 180-watt audio system with eight speakers. The Touring upgrades to a 330-watt top-quality sound system with nine speakers, and it also gets navigation and wireless device charging.
