Overview

The Honda CR-V is the happy medium of crossovers: it’s neither too big nor too small, plus it’s comfortable and well equipped. It’s been a strong seller throughout its existence because it pleases such a wide variety of drivers and has built a reputation for reliability and fine build quality. It’s back for the 2021 model year in both gasoline-only and gas-electric hybrid versions, but we’ll just look at the conventional gas-only model on this page.

Trims and Amenities

The ’21 CR-V is available in four trim levels: LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring. As the entry-level trim, the LX comes with automatic halogen-beam headlights, remote keyless entry, automatic climate control, a fold-down 60/40 split rear seatback, and a multi-angle rearview camera with guidelines. The EX’s upgrades include rear privacy glass, a moonroof, LED fog lights, Honda’s Smart Entry with Walk Away Auto Lock feature (which allows you to lock/unlock the doors without the use of the key fob), variable intermittent windshield wipers, heated side mirrors with turn-signal indicators, push-button start, a multi-angle rearview camera with dynamic guidelines, a cargo-area cover, dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless smartphone charger, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver’s seat.

The EX-L adds a power-operated tailgate, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink, memory functions for the driver’s seat, leather-upholstered seats, and a power-adjustable front passenger’s seat. At the top of the range, the Touring furnishes automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, a hands-free tailgate, dual chrome exhaust finishers, a heated steering wheel, and ambient interior lighting.

Trims and Amenities

All trims have a 190 hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard across the range, but all-wheel drive is an available option. According to EPA estimates, each trim with FWD returns 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, while those with AWD achieve 27 city/32 highway.
